The BREC concept for laboratory housing of pigeons is a wire rod type cage suspended in a rack. Each cage is equipped with fixed feeder bowls accessible to the bird through openings in the door of the cage. Constructed of stainless steel these cages are extremely easy to wash and will give years of valiant service.

The Pigeon Cage Racks are specifically designed to house pigeons and other small birds in a laboratory environment. The open wire front design provides easy visualization of the birds. Feed and water bowls mounted outside the cage front allows easy access without disturbing the birds and prevents feed and water contamination. All stainless steel construction insures complete and easy sanitation of the cage units.

The rack is fabricated from 1" square, 16 gauge stainless steel tube. Four shelves accomodate five LC-1911-SW1 stainless steel pigeon cages each. Cages are suspended under each shelf by 20 gauge suspensory channels welded to each shelf. The LC-1911-SW1 cage back and sides are fabricated from 22 gauge stainless sheet. The top, floor, and front are fabricated from 1" mesh welded 14 gauge stainless steel wire. The entire front of the cage is hinged at the top and swings up to open. A special food and water attachment is welded to the front of the cage which accomodates two 6 oz. stainless steel bowls. Two excreta pans, fabricated from 20 gauge stainless steel (each running half the length of each shelf) are provided for each shelf. The unit is mounted on four 5" heavy duty, swivel stem-type, copper-nickel-chrome plated casters with non-marking 1" wide tires and brakes. The caster swivel rack and the wheel axle are provided with grease fittings. After fabrication, the welded joints are blasted with glass beads to remove scale and slag, and welding splatter is removed by hand cleaning. The entire unit is inspected and all sharp edges and rough finishes are removed. The unit is washed with detergent and thoroughly rinsed prior to crating and shipping.
